Culture Manosque is very proud of its Giono, who in his books pictures nicely the town and it's surroundings in the past; a Centre is devoted to him. In summer two festivals are held in Manosque: in July a music festival with foreign music, jazz and chansons, and concerts in the park; and in August an intercultural festival with dance and music from all continents. In summer all of Provence is full of festivals; one can attend wonderful performances: from chansons to pop music and from classical music to dance and jazz. Sports, astronomy The enjoyable Golf du Luberon (18 holes) is situated in Pierrevert, five kilometers from our house. As our guests told us, the restaurant is top of the bill. Many sports are practised in summer around the lakes and mountains of the Provence: horseriding, canoeing, rafting, aviation, gliding, 'parapente' (parachute gliding), rock climbing. But one can also simply rent a tennis court or play golf. The best seasons to walk or ride a bicycle are spring and fall, albeit only because of the temperature. In the neighbourhood there are nice trails; the European long distance trail GR4 runs through Manosque. The crest of the Luberon mountain is especially prone to be discovered on mountain bike (to be rented in Manosque if so desired). And if you should like to climb and descend on a racer, you can enjoy yourself on the roads of Haute Provence. The nights are nice and cloudless and lend themselves to enjoying the stars. In summer a special attraction on the southern horizon is the constellation of Scorpio. In the area there are many observatories; some of them are also open to the public at certain evenings. It is advisable to book in advance, as admittance is limited. |
